An elected Jubilee Member of Parliament from North Rift region has warned Deputy President William Ruto against misleading maize farmers.
Moiben MP Silas Tiren while speaking in Eldoret on Saturday after a meeting with maize farmers said DP Ruto should stop asking maize growers to stop growing maize.
Angered Tiren said he has been a maize farmer for a long time and Ruto'S plan to have maize growers start growing other crops is unwelcome.
"Mr Ruto should stop misleading our people that they should start growing bananas, sugarcane and stop growing maize. North Rift farmers I included have been growing maize for a long time and DP Ruto should keep off," he said.
The MP reiterated that the government should buy maize from farmers at reasonable prices.
"We are calling on the government through NCPB to buy maize from farmers with good prices. A sack full of maize should be bought at Sh3,600," he noted.
The vocal MP regretted that DP Ruto's involvement in maize growers' affairs will cost his presidency in 2022.
"Ruto should apologize to maize farmers before 2022 because no farmer is willing to be misled," he added.
