In a press statement, Mr. Akot, a former governor and Deputy Speaker, said 'it is ridiculous to date a person who you don't know'.

A local daily had alleged that the former military officer cum politician, bankrolled Ms. Kimani, who was found dead under controversial circumstances in an apartment in Nairobi.

Further, he said, the allegations were strange since 'I have never met with Monica or his father at Rumbek and I don't own apartments in Nairobi'.

Interestingly, Akot, who was described as a warlord by the paper, says he's married and in a stable relationship.

"I am a married man and in a stable relationship. My children are learned and working in different parts of the world. My youngest child is even older than Ms. Kimani."

The former SPLM solder added that he will take an action against the Kenyan daily if it fails to offer an apology.

He insisted that the reports linking him to a marriage with Monica was fallacious and meant to taint his name.

"They even say am a Deputy Speaker a job I left in 2013. You must offer an apology or prepare for a legal battle," he said.

Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe and her fiance Joseph Irungu are set to be charged with murder of Ms. Kimani.

Irungu, police argue, was responsible after semen on Monica's body matched that of his after a DNA test.
