Mandera Governor Ali Roba has urged the media to partner with state agencies in fight against terrorism in Northern Kenya.
Roba says that the media can help combat terrorism through investigative journalism.
Speaking in Mandera Town on Wednesday, the Jubilee governor said that the media is a powerful tool that can help eliminate terrorists and their sympathisers.
He observed that the media as the watchdog of the society has a role to ensure security and peaceful co-existence.
“We need the media as we take the war against terrorism to another level,” he said.
The Jubilee governor, however, cautioned the media against glorifying terror activities through writing or broadcast reports.
“The media must be objective even as it exposes terror and other crimes,” he said.
Roba said that they are determined to eradicate terrorism in Northern Kenya.
“We have agreed as a region to be on the frontline in fighting terror militants and we will succeed,” he said.
Northern Kenyan especially Mandera and Garissa counties have in the recent years experienced deadly terror attacks leading to deaths.
