It was Uhuru's third trip to Kisumu County ever since reconciling with ODM leader Raila Odinga in March 2018. The first trip came in December last year with the most recent coming in February during the burial of Bruce Odhiambo.

Seme MP Dr James Nyikal, Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili joined Raila Odinga in ushering in Uhuru.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta arrives at Ratta in Kisumu County for the funeral service of the late mama Dorka Owino Nyong’o, mother of Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o of Kisumu County | @RailaOdinga @AnyangNyongo," tweeted State House.

Also in the team of ushering in the president were Governors James Ongwae (Kisii), Wilberforce Otchillo (Vihiga), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and host Governor Anyang Nyong'o.

The president and Mr Odinga are attending the funeral of Mama Owino, the mother to Nyong'o. Governor Nyong'o is said to have played a key role in reconciling the two.

During his December's trip to Kisumu, Uhuru promised constitutional changes which are likely to come when Building Bridges Initiative Task Force completes its work.

“We must examine whether our winner-takes-it-all approach to elections is a good or bad thing for the nation,” the President said. “We must then find ways to address it," he said.
