On September 3, 2015, Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga filed a case against National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale over the alleged Sugar saga at the Mumias Sugar Company.
Duale had alleged that the opposition leader owed the sugar milling company Sh. 40 million.
The allegations did not augur well with Raila who decided to move to court over the allegations.
According to Raila, claims that he had defaulted to repay the said amount had not only injured his character but also his reputation.
In a defamation suit filed at the High Court, Raila sought unspecified compensation.
He also asked the court to bar Duale from repeating the same allegations against him in future.
The Garissa Town MP claimed Raila had refused to settle the debt.
“His words were calculated to injure my reputation,” Raila said.
Duale and Raila were not in good terms until the handshake.
Recently, Duale admitted that Raila was among the leaders who can intimidate him.
"I won't be intimidated into silence, Madam Speaker. If anything, the only people who can intimidate me besides my wife and children are President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga," he said.
