Since February 2018, elected leaders of the ruling party have never held a joint meeting, with two factions emerging ahead of 2022 polls. One team supports DP Ruto (TangaTanga) while another one claims to be supporting Uhuru (Kieleweke).

At Murang'a on Sunday, Mr Kamanda, who leads Kieleweke team, accused DP Ruto of hiding in the gold scandal to diffuse the fight against corruption. He insisted that Ruto's support to Uhuru is unwanted.

“We know where he is aiming at when hypocritically defending the President. Let investigations be carried out and thieves be charged,” nominated MP Maina Kamanda said.

“When lovers are making their vows, a meeting is called for celebrations but when the love goes sour, no meeting is ever called,” he said in connection to PG meeting as reported by Nation.

Mr Kamanda also lashed at Ruto, accusing him of defending people linked to corrupt deals. He cited the cases of Governors Moses Kasaine, Ferdinand Waititu and Okoth Obado.

“He has no regard for investigative agencies and has assumed the role of a lawyer by defending his followers being investigated for corruption,” Mr Kamanda said.

For months, Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Samson Cherargei have been persuading Uhuru to convene PG. At Bungoma on Sunday, Ruto accused opposition team of engaging in illicit businesses.

“They accused Jubilee of stealing the Eurobond, they said we had sold Mombasa port, now they are selling fake gold. Kenyans know who the conmen are,” he said.
