Nyaribari Chache Mp now wants the Gusii community to abandon the outdated culture of not giving the true number of children during census for fear that bad omen will come by and cause the death of some.
This has come shortly after the preparation for the 2019 census are on and the programme set to begin officially on 24th August.
As many legislators have joined the bandwagon of encouraging electorates to ensure they are counted at their residences, Tong'i was not left out in the list.
Abagusii had the beliefs that during the census, giving out the real number of the children in a household can bring a bad omen and this can lead to the death of some children. However, Tong'i while speaking to locals on Thursday, condemned the belief and asked people to give the correct number of children.
e also said that this will enable sufficient funds to be channelled to the area which in turn will spur development.
"Ntookora buna ekegusii keria kiagatebire buna kobara ababa bonsi, abanto bari babwate amaiso amabe nigo barachie goita ababa baito. Igo tiga totangase enamba ya'bana, onye tokomenta tomente korende ntorusia (Let us not do as the old Kisii belief that says counting all the children, those people with evil eyes will cause the death of some. So let's give the real number of our children and if possible let's add but not subtract)" Tong'i said.
The legislature while speaking at Irungu PAG Secondary school, where he went to open a CDF built a modern laboratory, urged residents to be vigilant with CDF money when issued.
He asked the locals to be his watchdogs in order to end the embezzlement of CDF funds and ensure development is done.
