When President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Ben Chumo and submitted his name to Parliament for vetting, he did so in the belief that he was a clean man.
Hardly days after the nomination, the DPP, Noordin Hajji, hit the president with shocker after revealing that he would press charges against the SRC nominee over loss of millions of shillings at the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
The revelation caused quite a stir online with many Kenyans wondering why Chumo was nominated yet there were questions about his integrity.
Was the president unaware of the intentions of the DPP to strike?
Here is what the residents of Garissa had to say about the shocker that blindsided the president:
"It is unfortunate that the president had to be subjected to this kind of embarrassment. He should have been given intelligence before making the nomination," Sule Balo says.
"'Clearly, the president did not know that Mr Chumo would be facing charges of corruption. The president should not be blamed," Juno Nadhif says.
"Now that we know what we know about Mr Chumo, his nomination should be revoked and a fresh one made," Rege Abdiraqman says.
"The DPP's revelation caught me by surprise. I didn't expect that the president would make a nomination of someone who would face questions later," Koke Mohamed says.
