A good heart is a treasure and this is what you see in Pamela Awino.
She is feeding 37 children from her pocket despite the harsh economic times.
“With food in your stomach, you can survive another day,” she says in an interview.
Her good gesture towards innocent souls began fifteen years ago.
She used to interact with young single mothers who were struggling to feed their children.
She encouraged them not to give up and took care of their children as they went to shop small items for sale then use profits to feed their kids.
Awino narrated that one night strangers came and dumped two children in their house.
Neighbours had directed them after they found the children abandoned on the streets.
This added a burden because she already had five children to care for.
She had planned to accommodate them for a night but their mother threatened to kill them if she returned them to her. She chose to house them.
The number of children under her care kept on growing. By 2016, she had 31 children.
She explains that her salary while at the UN Development program on contract from 2008-2011 kept them going. She also stated that occasionally, some well-wishers would donate money and food.
Unfortunately, her warm heart forced her husband to abandon her for another woman. He demanded that she decides between her marriage and caring for the children. She chose the later.
