Luos are arguably among the most popular people in the nation.
However, there are other aspects of these great people which remain unknown to many Kenyans, especially outsiders, and which can only be discovered when they come together in large numbers.
With one of the few events that unite Luos from all over the county being the Luo festivals, here are some of the discoveries you will make when you attend these functions;
1. Luo women are beautiful
Luo women are not normally ranked among the nation’s prettiest ladies, at least when judging by the face, though they are among the top as far as curves and voluptuous characteristics are concerned.
However, you will realize that the beauty narrative is wrong once you attend one of these functions, where it will dawn on you that Luos have some of the prettiest ladies around.
Though you will see many beautiful ladies among the other revellers, even prettier ones will be on the runway displaying their beauty in exchange for the title and prize money.
2. Kenyans have vehicles
Have you ever heard of Alfa Romeo? Better yet, have you seen one in reality? Attend a Luo festival and you can be sure to see some of the world’s most expensive automobiles.
This is because Luos love living a good life, and cars being among the things that better one’s life, they usually use these functions to unleash their expensive imported rides.
3. Rare foods
It’s during these occasions that chefs go back to the ancient menus and recipes to give the revellers some of the diets that were taken by our great-great grandparents.
Some of these, including the likes of ‘Ogira’ (fried porridge), which can hardly be found anywhere else, as the biggest portion of the current generation either does not know about them or do not find them as attractive as the heavily consumed chips and ugali.
