For the first time at least through a proxy, retired President Daniel Moi says Jesus is the determinant of everything, adding that submitting to Him, not even death can shake human beings.
Over the weekend, Moi lost his eldest son Jonathan Moi. He succumbed to cancer at Medheal Hospital in Nakuru, just three weeks after being diagnosed with the disease at Nairobi Hospital.
On his Facebook page, West Pokot Governor John Longanyapuo, said that Mzee Moi took charge when he received various guests at Kabarak home who visited to condole with him over the death of the former Safari rally ace.
"I visited Retired President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak to condole with him following the demise of his son, Jonathan Moi. I was impressed by Mzee's strength and his word of wisdom that "When we know Jesus, our burden is eased....and not even death can weigh us down".
The Monday meeting also saw President Uhuru Kenyatta joining the Moi family to relay his condolences in person. Uhuru had described Jonathan Moi as a kind and generous human being, who mingled with everyone.
"I was also privileged to meet HE President Uhuru Kenyatta who was in Kabarak too, to convey his condolences to Mzee Moi. During our discussion, he promised to visit West Pokot after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's medical tour early next month. At one moment, we had a hearty laughter when the president joked about Mulmulwas phrase," added Longanyapuo.
Over the weekend, the Moi family had insisted that the family patriarch would not see any mourner perhaps due to his advanced age. But President Uhuru Kenyatta may have been allowed to see him due to his seniority in ranking.
Jonathan died aged 64 and nothing much is known about his family other than his controversial son Collins Moi. He also divorced his first wife Beatrice Mulwa, a niece to former Cabinet Secretary Nyiva Mwendwa.
