Kenya’s ambassador to Malaysia Ruth Kanini Kitony wants a graft case against her to be reviewed.
Kanini is accused of colluding with other officials to swindle Sh48.9 million from the Kasarani Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
She has, however, insisted that she is innocent and wants the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to review the charges listed against her.
The diplomat has been put on the spotlight over the embezzlement of the funds alongside former Kasarani Member of Parliament Elizabeth Ongoro.
On Monday, Kanini requested more time so that she can get in touch with the office of the DPP before the cases proceeds.
Her defence team appealed to Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi to grant them the request.
Others accused alongside the ambassador have been lamenting that the office of the DPP has been sidelining them.
Lawyers George Wajackoyah and Dunstan Omari reprimanded the office of the DPP over the case. They claimed that the DPP has resolved to apply double standards on issues that matter.
“The DPP is applying double standards in arresting some of the accused persons and arraigning them the next day without giving them an opportunity to write to him to review their cases," Mr Omari said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The lawyers have also asked the DPP to provide them with the documents being used in the case.
