South Korean Embassy nominee Mwende Mwinzi has decided to seek legal redress after pressure mounted on her to renounce her US citizenship before she can assume her new role.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee has filed an urgent case at the High Court over the matter.
Mwende now wants the court to compel Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma to post her to Seoul so that she can serving the people of Kenya in that capacity.
She argues that the push to have her renounce her dual citizenship is unconstitutional and unwanted at the same time.
She has insisted that she is an American by birth and she is not ready to deny her roots at the expense of a job.
Mwende said that the recommendation by the National Assembly’s departmental committee on defence and foreign relations is only a tool being used to frustrate her.
Lawyer, Tom Ojienda has since accused the parliamentary committee of being biased and against the law following the demand.
He argues that envoys cannot be subjected to the same conditions as state officers.
The development comes after questions arose on whether she had assumed office. It later emerged that she was yet to report at her new work place.
