Health service providers in Nakuru county have been placed on high alert following several cases of cholera that have so far been reported.
According to the County Public Health Officer Samuel King’ori, three patients with cholera signs and symptoms have been treated and allowed to go home.
Two of three who had earlier on tested positive for the disease have been cleared as the other one has been booked in for close monitoring.
On multiagency surveillance, King'ori revealed that his officers had been dispatched to identified locations to deal with any case as it arises. He also assured all county residents that local health centres have been supplied with enough drugs and that there is no cause to worry.
Already, several hospitals have been identified as acute isolation centres. These include the Nakuru Level Five Hospital, Mogotio, Langa Langa, Naivasha and St. Mary’s hospital.
Residents have been cautioned against consuming foods sold in the open or even consuming fruits that have not been washed properly.
Other counties where Cholera cases have been reported are Garissa, Nyeri and Nairobi.
