Embattled Garissa County Governor Ali Bunow Korane is among political leaders who have registered for Huduma Namba.
Korane revealed that he had registered early this week and went on to share his biggest worry about the registration exercise.
In a Facebook post, he expressed fear that scores of Somalis of Kenyan origin whom he described as his people could end up being locked out for lacking identification cards.
"I registered for Huduma Number in Garissa today. I was accompanied by Dep. Governor H.E Abdi Dagane and other senior county officials. As we take part in this exercise, the national gov't must be cognizant of the fact that many of our people cannot register for the Huduma Number for lack of IDs," the post read.
Somalis have long had difficulties with getting identification documents as they have to prove that they are Kenyans and not from Somalia.
This has rendered scores of them unable to access government services.
To register for Huduma Number one has to produce an identification card.
The government says the roll-out of the system is aimed at streamlining how it delivers services to citizens.
Kenyans across the country have been flocking to registration centres to get the number and avoid the last minute rush.
