Three weeks ago, a man from Makueni County, David Nzomo, was captured publicly assaulting his wife.
His actions aroused bitter reactions from Kenyans, especially those on social media.
Two years ago, another man from Mwala sub-county in Machakos county cut off his wife's hands accusing her of cheating.
In 2016, another man was charged with chopping off his wife's hand after an argument.
However, there are reasons that these men give to justify their violence against women.
These are some of the lame reasons:
1. Women need to be disciplined
In the olden days, men used to beat their wives and no one would question that.
In those days male chauvinism was on the rise and women were perceived to be the lesser vessels.
The notion that women need to be beaten to discipline them hasn't left them.
Maybe they witnessed their mothers being battered and grew to think women are like children who need constant beatings.
2. They want to show how manly they're
Men who batter their wives have the lame thought that their actions will earn them fear and respect from their wives.
They also want to brag to fellow men how they are in charge of their homes and no women would dare oppose them.
3. They are insecure
Some men wouldn't want a woman who has great thoughts than him, great achievements and dreams.
They always want the woman to be submissive and under them always, any sign of wanting to prosper more than them would really hurt their ego.
They think women would leave them or see no more need to have men in their lives.
