Bomachoge Borabu MP Prof Zadoc Ogutu has warned locals against planting bananas on public roads.
The lawmaker said planting bananas on public roads will not fast track the upgrade of the roads which have been rendered impassable due to ongoing heavy downpour in the entire Gusii region.
"I'm asking locals to stop digging deep holes on public roads to plant bananas and claim that they are angry. The electorates need to find alternative ways of airing their grievances instead of destroying the roads," said Ogutu as reported by Egesa Fm on Tuesday.
He was responding to a Monday incident in which locals of Magenche area planted bananas on Magenche-Nyabiore road protesting over its pathetic condition.
The MP, however, pointed out that the Magenche-Nyabiore, Riokindo-Kenyenya and Magenche-Mariba roads which have been rendered impassable because of the heavy rains will be repaired.
"The roads which are in the bad state will be repaired immediately the rains stops. It will be zero work if the contractor will work on the roads while it is still raining," said Ogutu who also challenged his political nemesis not to incite locals to plant bananas on the roads.
