Nakuru is home to hundreds of residential estates.
Some of these have misleading names especially for visitors :
1. Free Area
You will be wrong if you think you can live rent-free in this estate just because of the name.
Just like any other estate, you will have to pay up and the 'Free Area' narrative is just a tittle.
It is located about two kilometres to the east of Nakuru town, within Nakuru Town East constituency.
2. Checkpoint
One can easily confuse it to a place where one passes through before accessing the next estate.
The name also points at a rather leafy suburb.
However, located between Suburb (Shabaab) and Kaptembwo estates, its just another estate like any other, complete with its problems.
Sitting on a steep slope, Checkpoint is just another of the many slums in Nakuru West area.
3. London
The name points at a presidential estate with all the preferred amenities since it shares names with one of the most popular cities in the world.
But this is just a name as London is one of the worst estates in Nakuru as far as illicit liquor and crime are concerned.
It overlooks the town from the Northern end and boasts of among others, large numbers of jobless youths and poor infrastructure.
