While wishing the DP well in his ambition for the Presidency in the 2022 general elections, the former assistant minister asked the DP to remember 'hustler Kenyans'.

“Kwa hivyo mheshimiwa(Ruto) nakutakia kila la heri..umesema wewe ni hustler kuwa candidate wa mahustler  na mimi(Koigi) ni mmoja wa hao mahustler," stated Koigi.

In English, it loosely translates to "Honourable Ruto, I wish you the best..you have said you are a hustler and you are a candidate for the hustlers and I am one of the hustlers."

Wamwere who spoke in Bahati during a mass for a family that lost five members in the Ethiopian plane crash, however, stated that he stands for democracy that allows anyone to vie for any seat in the country.

The mass was also attended by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and several leaders from Nakuru County among them Governor Lee Kinyanjui.

Koigi lost in the Jubilee Party nominations in 2017 for the Nakuru Senatorial seat to Senator Susan Kihika.

The renowned second liberation fighter and long-serving political detainee under retired President Daniel Moi's tenure managed only 17 votes in the nominations.

This was after he merged his Chama Cha Mwananchi party into Jubilee Party in the run-up to the elections.

In protest, Wamwere moved out of Jubilee to unite with opposition boss Raila Odinga in his Orange Democratic Movement.
