The situation in Likoni is not a different case. Likoni is located in South Coast or rather the Southern terminus of Likoni Ferry, in Mombasa County.

Come to the point, prostitution in Likoni, it is never brought to the limelight like any other unusual things that are exposed to the society.

The major brothel in Likoni where one can find several sex workers is located near the Likoni Ferry cross point. Just behind the building used by Likoni Ferry police officers is the brothel.

The ladies and women making a living from the brothel start coming out, that is, to be spotted by passers-by, as early as 6 pm. These showing up at this hour are into the business not because they enjoy doing it, but because of poverty. They charge as little as Sh50.

If you disembark from the ferry and decide to pass by the brothel, these ladies will be requesting for your Sh50 to render the service.

"Nataka hamsini tu pekee nikanunue vyazi, hiyo huwezi kosa na umetoka kazini," (I only need Sh50 to buy chips, you cannot lack that) you will hear them begging men.

At around 11pm, another group will be arriving at the brothel. These women are doing it as a serious business.

They start their work in famous clubs in Mombasa city and in Bamburi, where they meet clients before competition gets tougher for them.

They then decide to switch locations to Likoni, which becomes a greener pasture for them.

"They keep on changing places from one location to another," said Juma Hassan, a boda boda rider.

"These women also end up fighting. They fight for customers and for 'hotspots' (space). They want to maintain a place where customers can spot them easily, but because others are moving from place to place, it becomes the source of troubles."
