President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to fully join the ongoing push for constitutional changes led by politicians allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Raila is on record urging Kenyans to await possible changes under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), founded by him and Uhuru after their March 9, 2018, truce.
On Sunday, Siaya Senator James Orengo said that Uhuru needs to be active on the matter, and ensure that the changes are implemented by mid next year, for his own sake.
He warned that failure to this, Uhuru will towards the end of his term find himself turning into a lameduck president, and his powers being taken over by others, being on his last and final term.
"If the handshake does not graduate into constitutional amendments by mid next year then President Uhuru will begin looking like a lameduck president," he said.
Orengo who was speaking on K24's Punchline stated that Uhuru must use his current powers to implement the changes himself and Raila have promised to bring upon Kenya.
Otherwise, he said, by the end of next year he will start losing his powers as others take over, as was the case with former Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
"Its not like he has all the time in the world, like Moi and Kibaki he too will enter into that stage," he added.
Uhuru has more than once endorsed the changes, saying that there is need for Kenyans to embrace a system abolishing the current "winner takes it all" system.
