A special school in Nyakach, Kisumu County has been accused of covering up physical and sexual assault cases against disabled pupils.
Parents of pupils at the school together with Human Rights activists have voiced out their concerns and criticized the school administration.
According to a report by The Standard Media, a cook at the school allegedly defiled several children.
Some of the teachers on the other hand have been accused of trying to cover up for the case by beating up the children.
Nyanza Regional Education Director Richard Chepkawai on Saturday said he was aware of the complaints and investigations in the Catholic sponsored school are currently going on.
“We have launched investigations and we will give a report. We will take action if the allegations are proven true,” Chepkawai said as quoted by the Standard Media.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) are also investigating the matter.
A parent to a 15 year old son in particular, claimed her son had suffered a lower jaw fracture that doctors believed was caused by assault on him.
The school had however told her that the son was involved in an accident.
The school headteacher nonetheless denied the allegations leveled against the institution.
