Kandenge, who remains one of the greatest soccer players of all time in the history of Kenya died on July 7, 2019 while receiving treatment at the Meridian Hospital in Nairobi.

South B Member of County Assembly (MCA) Waithera Chege has since tabled a motion to push for the desired changes on behalf of the residents.

“The renaming would be in honour of Joe Kadenge who lived in Nairobi South area and was regarded as a fine footballer," she is quoted by the Saturday Standard.

During his younger days, Kadenge who was born in March 1935 played for among others; Abaluhya United and the National Team Harambee Stars, before retiring in 1970.

He was picked as the Stars Head Coach in 2002, before handing over to Jacob "ghost" Mulee the next year.

He was made even more popular by the slogan "Kadenge na Mpira" (Kandege with the ball), which commentators would use when he got possession of the ball on the pitch.

Should the efforts pay off, he will join the list of many other legends who were immortalized on roads and other infrastructure.
