Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Eldoret diocese Bishop Dr Christopher Ruto has urged nurses union officials and representatives of the Ministry of Health to have creative negotiations in order to end the ongoing strike.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Friday after commissioning 30 wheelchairs donated by Wheels for the World organization to help people and children with disability in the county, Bishop Ruto said Kenya has come of age and health workers strike should be a thing of the past.
“The only way to end the stalemate is through dialogue that brings both parties together to discuss the dispute and address the grievances that led to the strike,” said the ACK Bishop.
He reiterated that many patients are suffering in public hospitals and that the strike has affected common people who can’t afford expensive services in private hospitals.
“I appeal to the government and the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) to hasten their talks for an amicable solution to be found so as to save Kenyans from suffering,” noted Bishop Ruto.
So far nurses in ten counties are on strike with those in other 7 counties expected to also join them beginning Sunday.
The nurses are demanding service and uniform allowances.
