Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was not left behind to congratulate teacher Peter Tabichi who won the 2019 Global Teacher Prize at a ceremony held in Dubai on Sunday.
The Governor congratulated Tabichi on winning the prestigious $1 million (Sh100 million) Global Teacher Prize.
Governor Kinyanjui took to his Facebook page to send a message to the high school teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Nakuru.
Kinyanjui said he was proud of Tabichi calling him an inspiration for Nakuru County, Kenya, and Africa.
Governor Kinyanjui further said that his story will inspire and motivate other teachers in the country to work hard and assist their students to perform better in class.
“I congratulate Brother Peter Tabichi of Keriko Secondary School, Nakuru County for winning the Global Teacher Prize, which is a Sh100million award. He has done Nakuru, Kenya and Africa proud.”
“His win will also motivate teachers across the country to go out of their way to mentor pupils and students to achieve their potential. Once again, congratulations Brother Tabichi!,” posted Governor Kinyanjui on Facebook.
Tabichi, a science teacher, was recognized for his efforts in changing and improving the lives of students in his school.
The 36-year-old teacher gives away 80 percent of his monthly salary to help poor students in his school who cannot afford uniforms and books.
