Two passengers who boarded a Naivasha-bond matatu turned out to be dangerous criminals who duped the driver into the hands of other robbers.
The two, a man and a woman, appeared to be a couple and were smartly dressed.
They boarded the vehicle at around 9 pm in Nairobi and sat in the front seats next to the driver.
When they reached Soko Mjinga, they told the driver to drop.
When he went to the boot to open for the two to pick their luggage, two other men armed with guns emerged from a thicket.
The four commandeered the vehicle into Kinale forest and ransacked the passengers.
“Everybody was undressed naked, including children, it was an embarrassing and harrowing experience,” a victim said.
The four thugs stole valuables and transferred M-Pesa cash from every phone before they disappeared.
The scene of the crime told the tale of what the passengers underwent.
The case was recorded at Lari police station and investigations are ongoing.
Drivers plying the Nairobi-Nakuru highway have been told to be cautious not to drop passengers around crime hotspots at night.
