As the world celebrated International Disability Day on the 3rd of December, people living with disability in Kisii County were left with shock after Kisii County Government suddenly suspended the ceremony on Monday without notice citing lack of resources.
Speaking in Kisii, the Kisii County National Director of people living with disability Mr. Isaac Rogito said they received Ksh 50,000 from the National government to plan the event, the cash Kisii County Government said was little to plan for hence requested to be given time and top the amount to colour the event at a later date.
"National government gives Ksh 50,000 yearly to plan the event which is too little. The County said the amount is too small and cannot sustain the needs on that day, so it requested for more time to mobilize resources and plan a colourful ceremony at a different date," he said.
People living with disability had flocked the town ready for the international ceremony at least to express their challenges only to find the ceremony was suspended without clear communication to them.
"It's shocking to gather people living with disability here in town from all corners of Kisii County and find there is no Ceremony. Others who can't walk had no transport and personally because I do business I had to help some with transport. We were not informed that there was no function today," said Kebaso Nyagaka one of the people living with disability.
