It was an emotional send-off for Joyce Nyambura Maina,39, as leaders pointed fingers at the Patel dam owners for the untimely demise of the deceased.

Nyambura lost her home and business and was reportedly duped into signing a Sh100, 000 agreement for compensation.

When she realized what she had gotten herself into, her blood pressure shot up.

She was rushed to Bahati sub-county hospital where she succumbed on Wednesday, July 4.

She has left behind four children aged between 8 and 16 years.

Speaking during the funeral service, Kabazi Ward MCA Peter Mbae said the deceased lost her life after she was duped into signing the agreement.

“The late succumbed due to shoddy compensation that was spearheaded by greedy individuals, and that is why we are saying we need a system in place to ensure that the genuine victims of the Solai dam tragedy get justice,” said Mbae.

He accused certain people of taking advantage of the tragedy.

The MCA added that as leaders they will not rest until the victims are compensated accordingly.

“If you know you are not a victim of the Solai dam tragedy please don’t move next to the lawyers doing the registration,” he said.

Meanwhile, details have also emerged that local administrators duped affected families into signing the compensation agreement.

Affected families also accused local administrators of altering the compensation list to include people who were not affected.
