A few hours before the country marks Mashujaa Day at Bhukungu stadium in Kakamega County, the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union KPAWU national Organising Secretary Henry Omasire has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to honor Kenyan workers as heroes.

In a phone interview from the national headquarter of the union in Nakuru on friday, Omasire urged Uhuru to honor workers as heroes for they pay a big role in improving the economy of the country.

"I know that Mashujaa day is a day meant to honour those who fought for the independence of our Country but it will be proper if workers will be honoured too putting in mind this are the same people who were enslaved while working for the white people during colonial days," he said.

He further affirmed that the Union which is under the Umbrella of Central Organisation of trade Unions, COTU, will continue to agitate for reasonable wages and good working environment for it's members.

 "As a union we will not relent to engage employers as a way of ensuring workers mostly those working in large plantation farms are payed well so as to enable them manage the sky rocketing economy."
