Tongues have been left wagging on the possible successor of the incumbent governor Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu County.
It is even rumoured that DP Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet could be the next county boss.
However, what is causing even more debates is the fact that Mandago is currently serving his final term at the apex county office as stipulated by the 2010 constitution.
Being a youthful politician, many are wondering on his possible fate upon the expiry of his term.
For a number of ageing governors, retiring from politics could be an option. But for Mandago, exiting active politics might never be a better option.
The county boss has never commented on anything beyond his current term. Neither has he showed signs of vying for any other elective position, save for his unwavering support for DP Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Sources close to him indicate that his political future is much dependent on DP Ruto's win come the next elections.
Going by this proposition, it might be interpreted that Mandago's future largely lies on presidential appointment possibly as an ambassador, a Cabinet Secretary or even as the head of parastatal.
