In January 2017, drama unfolded at Mwasua village in Mwala, Machakos County during the burial of a former MP, Peter Mutua Kavisi.
The clergy had requested for leaders to give their condolences when speaking and keep off politics during the function in order to give the deceased a befitting burial.
However, Governor Mutua's delegation at the event would hear none of it and when they stood to speak couldn't forget to hail the governor and tell of his remarkable works.
The then Maendeleo ya Wanawake leader and former Maendeleo Chap Chap party's Woman Representative candidate, Francisca Mutinda was forced to cut short her speech while she was praising Mutua for a 'good work' done after the crowd started shouting.
Screams, shouts and heckling rented the air as the residents wanted her off the microphone immediately.
Despite the area being considered a stronghold for the governor, the actions of the residents that day showed otherwise.
The then Machakos County's Water and Education CECs' could not read Mutua's speech as the crowds booed them late Mutua's allies Boniface Mutinda Kabaka and other leaders who were not supporting governor Mutua at one point had their microphones switched off as they made their remarks by the county team that was operating the sound system.
