Chief Justice David Maraga on Wednesday afternoon swore in Dr Margaret Nyakango as the new Controller of Budget.
House committee approved her nomination on Tuesday.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Maraga swore in Nyakango.
''Just sworn in Dr. Margaret Nyakango, new Controller of Budget at the Supreme Court this afternoon. The Office plays an important role in ensuring the prudent and planned use of public funds. I wish her well in this important assignment,'' said Maraga.
Her swearing-in comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated her for nominated her back in November this year.
She will be replacing the former Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo, whose term came to an end in August 2019 having served for eight years.
Led by Kipkelion East MP Joseph Limo, Parliamentary Finance Committee noted that Nyakango meets all the required standards for appointment.
“Having considered the suitability, capacity, and integrity of the nominee, the committee recommends that the National Assembly approves the nomination and subsequent appointment of Margaret Nyakango,” the report on her vetting reads as quoted by the reads a report by the committee.
She assured the committee that she will make sure the government gets a wide tax base by bringing on board informal sectors.
The vacancy in the Controller of Budget's office led to delayed approval of funds to counties.
