The two were attending the burial of the late Mzee Joel Orure in Nyahera, which turned into a verbal exchange between the governor and area leaders on one side and the senator on the other.

When he stood to speak during the final rites of the ceremony, the senator lashed out at the county boss for what he called dismal performance, noting that he was failing locals.

The former Nyando parliamentarian accused the county boss of allowing cartels to thrive in the county operations, warning him of tough days ahead should he remain reluctant to act.

''Unless you guard against these cartels, you will regret later,'' said the Senator, causing tension at the function.

In response, the county boss told his critics, in an apparent shot at the Senator who has been fighting him lately, to let him work for now and use the right criticism channels.

He added that the growing group is out to erode the relationship between his leadership and the people, which he termed wrong and disruptive to county operations.

''There are some people out to antagonize the relationship between my government and the people for political expediency. This is wrong. Insults will not build Kisumu,'' he said.

In solidarity with the governor, Nyando MP Jared Okello and his Kisumu West counterpart Olago Aluoch who were also present told the Senator to raise his complains in the senate.
