The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli had the opportunity to weigh in on the group during an interview on NTV's Sidebar programme.

Atwoli observed that 'Kieleweke' could have been formed to rein in team 'Tanga Tanga', the pro-Ruto outfit.

"But I think it is a political outfit may be to tame Tanga Tanga. It is open like that and it is not a new thing and I think we used to have it during those times of KANU and KADU. Those are formidable political outfits looking to come out maybe to form political alliances," he said during the interview.

Kieleweke is seen as an outfit aimed at undermining Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions.

Its members are widely perceived to be Jubilee Party leaders from the vote-rich Central Kenya region.

Pro-Ruto politicians have maintained that the outfit does not wield any significant influence to thwart the DP's 2022 ambitions.

"They are just five people that I cannot even count. They are just sympathisers of ODM," Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said of Kieleweke when she appeared on Jeff Koinange Live on aired on Citizen Television.
