He has attempted suicide three times, all unsuccessful because he lost the use of his hands. His brothers cruelly amputated his wrists following a family feud that they determined could not be solved amicably. Sources say that it is a blatant issue of sibling rivalry.
Fred Kiprono, a resident of Chemno, village, Elgeyo Marakwet county bore the brunt of his brothers cruelty simply for finding a wife before them.
The brothers, both in their thirties, have never been in hurry to marry instead whiling their time away at drinking dens scattered all over the village.
It is said that Kiprono had been telling them that he will bypass them if they don’t take action. And he sure did. The marriage had not yet been formalized. That did not matter because formalities would come later in form of children.
The brothers descended on him after visiting one of the drinking dens and severed his wrists to teach him a lesson. It is quite unfortunate that law enforcement agencies did not take action on the brothers, who are now walking freely in the village.
Kiprono was rushed to Iten Hospital where he received treatment, which unfortunately did not restore his hands. As a form four leaver who depended on his hands to earn a living, Kiprono has been reduced to a beggar.
He wears a forlorn face on his face, with sorrow indelibly written on it. He no longer greets people. So far, his attempts to take his life have not been successful.
