Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has ruled out backing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's future presidential bids.
Mudavadi has twice rallied behind Raila in his 2007 and 2017 bids, but on Saturday said that never again will he repeat the same, as he personally takes his second shot at the seat.
The ANC party leader blamed Raila for failing to make it to the statehouse in the 2017 elections. He said he deliberately backed him and formed the National Super Alliance (NASA) front in his (Raila) favour.
“I did it deliberately because I did not want Raila or anyone else to blame me for not supporting them," the former Vice President who was speaking during a funeral service in Mumias East on Saturday was quoted by the Standard.
Mudavadi says he has repeatedly been generous with his support to other leaders, and its payback time.
“I backed former President Daniel arap Moi, Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga before, the debt is over and 2022 is my turn,” he noted.
Mudavadi was responding to former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa who urged him to stand firm in his 2022 plans and lead the Western Kenya region to government.
He also took shots at area leaders whom he termed as easy targets for outsiders, accusing them of letting the region down by selling their backing at a low price. He stressed on the need for all leaders and politicians to respect themselves and remain united in preparation for the much-anticipated contest.
