Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has broken his silence over police officers allegations of harassing bodaboda riders in his home turf.
Matiang'i while addressing locals on Saturday at Borabu in Nyamira County noted that police officers need to ensure motorists comply with the law and not harassing them when they fail to give them bribes.
"This issue of police officers demanding for bribes from riders in Itumbe and all corners of Gusii region must stop. I am not going to condone any security officers demanding for bribes," he said.
He stated that the government pays the security officers monthly salaries to offer security to the people.
Matiang'i assured bodaboda riders in Itumbe that their complaints have reached him and he will take the necessary measures to put the vice to an end.
The Interior CS argued that police officers asking for bribes have their days numbered.
"We can't have few officers spoiling the name of the entire police force. The security officers in Itumbe and other areas in Kisii County harassing riders will be dealt with accordingly," he stated.
Matiang'i ordered Kisii Police Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi to work with locals to bring to book rogue officers asking for bribes.
