Makueni Governor professor Kivutha Kibwana is serving his final term in office.
As the vocal governor serves his final term, there are politicians eyeing to succeed him in 2022.
Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau has already declared her interest to succeed Kibwana.
Mwau says she has what it takes to push Makueni's development agenda forward after Kibwana's term.
Other politicians said to be eyeing the Makueni top seat are Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and Kibwezi East legislator Jessicah Mbalu.
Governor Kibwana has been quoted saying that he will not allow a 'joker' to take over Makueni's top leadership.
Kibwana who has several times been voted among best performing governor's says he will be ready to stay around to nurture his successor.
As 2022 quickly approaches, Senator Kilonzo Junior could be the right candidate to take over Makueni top leaderhip.
Kilonzo Junior has been vocal and agressive on issues facing Makueni residents and Kenyans at large.
The youthful Senator seems to have the interests of Makueni residents at heart.
According to Peter Ngure, a Kiambu based political analyst, Kilonzo Jnr could easily fit into Kibwana's shoes.
"He (Kilonzo Jnr) has the same energy, love for his job and people's interests just like Governor Kibwana," the analyst said in an interview on Saturday.
Senator Kilonzo Junior is vocal on issue of land grabbing, human rights and education in Makueni and the larger Ukambani region.
The Senator is currently pushing for justice and compensation to families of the Solai tragedy in Nakuru.
Though the Makueni Senator has not declared his interest in contesting the governor seat, all indications shows his name is likely to be on the ballot.
Senator Kilonzo Junior is among youthful Kamba politicians who are backing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2022 presidential bid.
