Residents in Central Kenya have raised concern over the re-emergence of gangs-for-hire in the region.
This comes following the recent cases of crime that have been witnessed in the area.
The Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco) headquarters were last week vandalised by a group of unknown assailants who destroyed CCTV cameras, smashed windows, broke doors and even took off with some files.
The incident is said to have occurred in the presence of police officers, the Standard has reported.
In Kiambu, former Roads CeC John Mugwe is reported to have been assaulted by a group of men outside Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s office.
Mugwe was in the company of residents who had held demonstrations to Waititu's office to deliver a petition to the county boss.
Waititu, however, denied any involvement in the incident, stating that Mugwe was attacked by residents who were queuing to see him after he attempted to jump the queue.
“I did not send anyone to beat up Mugwe and his group. They tried to jump the queue and the people became furious, attacked and threw them out of the office,” Waititu said.
In Kirinyiga County, an unknown gang is said to have stormed the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital where assailants attacked guards and doctors, before driving off with a patient that was receiving treatment at the facility after being involved in a road accident.
Central Region Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Danson Giru said police did not launch investigations into some of the cases as they went unreported.
