President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fight against graft is yet to bear fruits because he is surrounded by wrong people, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said.
Speaking on Citizen’s JKL show on Wednesday, Mutua said that Uhuru means well for this nation but the people around him continue to fight him from all fronts. He noted that it is unfortunate that the Kenyan electorate has been voting for thieves
“We are the problem. We vote in the thieves and the thieves are among us. I feel sorry for the President, he's fighting corruption but people very close to him, are blocking him” he said.
He also asked leaders to embrace the idea of lifestyle audit. He argued that the gap between those Kenyans who are rich and the poor ones is too big. He also opined that the lifestyle audit will stop a few leaders from the government to loot what belongs to the tax payer.
“The gap between the rich and the poor is our main problem. Rich people in Kenya are friends, with no issues like tribalism. They live together and do business together. The poor keep fighting amongst themselves. That is our biggest problem,” he said.
On his part, Uhuru has maintained that he will not change his tune to slay the corruption dragon.
