The incident happened on Friday evening.

Locals said Boniface Ombati, a shop keeper, met his death while he was returning home at 9 pm.

"It is said that Ombati has been having an affair with a widow against whom he has been warned to stop visiting but he didn't listen. Unknown people were hired to kill him since he could not listen to the warnings," said a local  Geoffrey Ondari.

Mr. Ondari said the deceased had a deep cut on his head, left leg and right hand.

Area assistant chief Benjamin Aming'a said Ombati's body was discovered by passersby on Saturday morning after it was dumped by the roadside.

"The killers are yet to be identified but investigations have commenced. Members of the public with information should volunteer to police for arrests to be made. His body was taken to Nyamira hospital morgue," said the chief.

Aming'a called on men to stop engaging in extra-marital affairs saying they risk being killed.

The local administrator reiterated that cases of men being killed because of women's love are on the rise in the area.
