Political analyst Robert Mungai has opined that Deputy President William Ruto chances of being the president of Kenya come 2022 depends on the unity of Jubilee Party.
According to the political scientist, if Jubilee collapses, then it means DP Ruto has to start from scratch, a move which will be a tall order.
“Dr Ruto’s 2022 presidential fortunes hang in Jubilee because if the party collapses, he will have to start from zero and come up with grassroots leaders," said Mr Mungai.
Mr Mungai added that should Jubilee collapse, the next better option for DP Ruto is to enter another coalition agreement, a move that may compromise his chances of being the presidential candidate for the new coalition.
Furthermore, Mungai noted that the task of keeping the seemingly divided Jubilee party together is a much easier task compared to forming a new political outfit.
"This will easily attract pre-coalition deals which will complicate his chances of becoming President. Starting a political party from zero will also prove harder than struggling to keep Jubilee alive as it has structures that he will rely on in 2022," Mr Mungai opined.
Jubilee party has been having internal wrangles that started after the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
This led to the emergence of the two groups famously known as team Kieleweke and team Tanga-tanga, which have made it difficult for Ruto and the party to focus on succession politics and development.
