A middle-aged woman is being held at Machakos police station for allegedly throwing her one-day-old kid in the toilet.
The lady is said to have committed the crime on Monday in Misakwani village, Iveti location in Machakos.
Officers from the department of emergency services in Machakos County retrieved the baby from the 42-feet toilet alive.
David Mwongela, Director of Emergency services in Machakos County confirmed the sad incident.
He told journalists on Tuesday that the lady had claimed not to want the baby before throwing her in the toilet.
"She said she doesn't want anything to do with the child before throwing her in the toilet. I with other officers from the department did all we can to get the baby from the toilet, she is one day old," said Mwongela who led the operation.
The baby is in good condition receiving treatment at Machakos Level Five Hospital.
Police are expected to present the mother in court to face criminal charges.
