Former Malindi Member of Parliament Willy Baraka Mitengo has vowed to have his successor Aisha Jumwa removed from her parliamentary seat.
Speaking after the swearing in of newly-elected Ganda Ward Member of County Assembly Reuben Katana Mwamure, Mr Mitengo revealed his plan to collect signatures required to have Aisha Jumwa removed.
"Let her not think that we are joking. The signatures that we promised to collect, we will collect (Kwa hivyo yeye asichukulie haya ni maneno ya mzaha. Zile sahihi ambazo tumesema tutazikusanya ni kweli tutazikusanya), " Willy Baraka Mitengo. (2:38-2:51)
The former MP was flanked by a number of legislators who said they would work to ensure that Aisha Jumwa is ousted as a member of parliament.
Aisha Jumwa attracted the anger of the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party after she publicly threw her weight behind the 2022 presidential aspirations of Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
ODM officials say that her public declaration of support for DP Ruto went afoul of party rules which prohibits members from supporting candidates of rival parties.
Efforts to have her legally made to seek a fresh mandate after bailing out of ODM failed to achieve its intended purpose as the embattled legislator was allowed to continue dispensing her duties as a legislator.
