A section of women leaders in the larger Coastal region have vowed to unite and work together in the spirit of the handshake that was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Led by Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko, Kwale County Woman Representative Zuleikha Hassan and her Kilifi County counterpart Gertrude Mbeyu, the women leaders from across the political divide said they aim to unite the Coastal people, ensure zero political tension and help the Jubilee government in rolling out development projects in all the six coastal counties.
According to them, the Coastal region has experienced an economical boost especially in the tourism sector ever since President Kenyatta and Odinga buried their political hatchet.

Addressing the press on Sunday, the leaders also asked residents from Coast to embrace the handshake and help in building bridges of peace regardless of their political inclination.
Also present were Mombasa County Woman Representative Asha Hussein, Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, and Lamu County Woman Representative Cpt Ruweida Mohamed.
On January 7, Mboko joined Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in hosting the Kenyatta and Odinga alongside other leaders at the office of the Governor in Mombasa where she fully backed the handshake.
"Let us all utilise the handshake to build Kenya and stop putting the country in a political mood year in, year out for selfish interests," said the lawmaker.
"2022 will come and go but our great country will always be there for us and the future generations. Our number one agenda is to ensure the big four agenda succeeds," added the former Mombasa Woman Representative.
