In an interview on K24, Thursday night, Waiganjo said that the document proposes a lot of issues which are of great importance to the country, even in its current state.

However, he pointed out that if not treated with care, chances are high that politicians might run away with the entire initiative, taking the nation's attention off the good proposals.

"The document talks about so many important issues but politicians might hijack the political issues and the issues that affect the people might be easily forgotten," he said.

He added that the government can proceed to identify which of the suggestions can be implemented immediately and begin with that as the debate continues.

"The BBI report is a positive development, there are things the government can start implementing now," he added.

The remarks come at a time when politicians are now locked in a hot debate on whether to subject the proposals to the parliament for approval or begin a referendum preparations.

In what might further divide the nation, politicians have taken sides on the fate of the report, with allies to Deputy President William Ruto pushing for parliamentary approval.

Allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who founded the entire BBI issue, are on the other hand demanding that it be taken to a referendum.

The document has proposed the introduction of a Prime Minister, an overhaul of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and additional funds to counties.
