As the government plans to bring change to troubled Kenya Ferry Services (KFS), new board will be ordered to hire new professional managers to see the agency runs smoothly.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has said that KFS will be managed by experts only.
In an interview with Nation, Macharia said the new KFS board will be expected to ensure the agency is being managed by qualified professionals.
“As a government, we will demand change from the new board. We will make sure we get a board whose first task will be to recruit professional managers to run the agency,” Macharia said as quoted by Nation.
The CS further said that after the new board is in place, the government will increase the agency’s budget allocation that will help in meeting the setup goals.
“We have agreed to realign several line department budgets as we seek for funds to support this agency before we push for a supplementary budget. But this will only be presented once the new team is in place,” he said.
KFS has been in the limelight for the past few weeks after tragedy that happened at Likoni Channel late last month.
On September 29, a mother and her daughter drowned after their car slid from MV Harambee and plunged into the Indian Ocean.
Their bodies were later retrieved from the ocean after 13 days.
The tragedy resulted to President Uhuru Kenyatta revoking appointment of the whole KFS board.
