Kitui county government has ordered for the indefinite closure of Kyuso sub-county hospital, in Mwingi North after the non-local casual workers were reportedly threatened.
The Charity Ngilu-led government decided to swing into action after the non-locals said that they were living in fear following the threats from the local residents.
The closure of the facility has been confirmed by hospital medical superintendent Dr Daniel Misiani through a letter dated September 3.
According to the letter, which was quoted by Standard, the hospital will remain closed as detectives probe the matter.
Police have also embarked on patrol to calm the tension after members of the casual labourers' team decided to start leaving following the threats from the residents.
“Owing to concerns associated with impending unrest and insecurity at the hospital following threats posed by unknown entities to members of staff working within the hospital, the county ministry of health has decided to close the facility indefinitely pending investigations by law enforcement agencies,” the letter reads in part, as quoted by Standard.
A copy of the letter was sent to the governor through the director and chief officer in charge of health and sanitation.
It remains unclear how the whole story started but police are on the ground to investigate and arrest culprit linked to it.
Kyuso OCPD Charles Machinji has, however, said that he is yet to get formal communication from anyone in the county over the matter.
