Muslims have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta's government for declaring Monday a public holiday for their celebration of Eid al Adha.
Muslims from Kilifi County expressed their happiness after Eid al Adha was gazetted as their second public holiday after Eid Ul Fitr.
Muhdhar Ahmed Badawy, a scholar from Kilifi County asked other Muslims to appreciate the honour by the government in granting them a public holiday on such a special day.
He called on all Muslims to embrace peace, love and unity.
“This is a day to send a message to all Muslims, Kenya and the whole world that Islam is a religion of love and peace,’’ Badawy said as quoted by Standard.
He also argued Muslims to study the religion so that they avoid misleading interpretations that cause conflicts with other religions.
“We urge Muslims to sacrifice today and share it among the people regardless of their religious background,’’ he said as quoted by Standard.
Eid al-Adha is a celebration of sacrifice and giving.
During this day, Muslims across the world sacrifice animals which they share with the needy in society.
The day is celebrated to honour Ibrahim's readiness to sacrifice his only son as directed by God.
God tested his faith and he showed it by his willingness to sacrifice Ishmael.
