Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna now claims that Deputy President William Ruto is very unpopular in Kibra.
Sifuna says that the DP is aware that he is unwanted in the region, hence his decision to take precautions when he visited the region for a campaign rally on Sunday.
While campaigning for Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga at Lindi Grounds on Sunday, the DP was spotted in the presence of heavily armed commandos from the elite Recce squad.
Sifuna on Wednesday linked this to Ruto's unpopularity in the region, observing that he as well exhibited fears judging by his arrival and immediate departure after speaking.
"He had to arrive in a chopper speak and leave with Recce squad around him. He knows very well that he is one of the most unpopular politicians," he said on KTN, Wednesday night.
"People do not like his style of politics and its a widely acknowledged fact that if Kenya were to end up with him as president we would all be in problem," he added.
He pointed out that while the DP was taking precautions, he (Sifuna) danced his way to Laini Saba, where ODM was campaigning for Imran Okoth on foot.
He added that the DP is using the Mariga factor to erode the ongoing good relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce.
According to the former Nairobi senatorial aspirant, Mariga is headed for a defeat, which the DP knows, but is just using him in a bid to revive the initial ODM-Jubilee hostility.
"That appears like the only intention of the Deputy President having a candidate in Kibra because he knows very well that he is not going to win," he said.
